Bula! I am back from my week in Fiji with Mary and Steve. We took a boat from Nadi (on the main island) to a chain of small islands called the Yasawas. Luckily the seas were calm and Mary avoided seasickness.
Our first stop was Octopus Resort on Waya Island. This was the nicest spot I have been to in the South Pacific. The sand was so soft, great snorkeling right off the beach, and amazing food and drinks. Our accomodation was a thatched hut that weathered most of the mid-night downpours pretty well, only a few drips got through the thatched roof. The shower was open roofed so you could stargaze while showering.

At Octopus I got two dives in with tons of coral and fish. Mary and I took a boat to the village (did I mention there are no roads or vehicles on the islands) to watch the locals rugby game. On the journey over Mary's keen eye spotted a banded sea snake slithering along the cables on the side of the boat. After a moment of panic the Captain grabbed a towel and threw the snake off the boat.
Of course the rugby game ended in a brawl.
