Sail Away

This past weekend my co-worker Peter invited me to head out onto the Hauraki Gulf on is yacht. It was a cool morning, with frost on the deck when we first arrived... at 7:00am (no sleeping in this weekend). We headed across the Gulf towards Motutapu Island. There was a 15knot southerly blowing but it was a crystal clear morning. We tried fishing a few times on the way over with no luck, only a few bites.

Once we landed we hiked up the island to see the WWII gun emplacements. The view from the top was awesome!

We had pizza and sandwiches for lunch on the boat and enjoyed the mid-winter sun. Heading back to the yacht club the wind had picked up to 20+ knots and I had fun steering and adjusting the sails. The power of the wind is amazing. I ended up spending from dawn till dusk on the water.
